Self Seekers or Selfless Doers????

Hey All:

Just a few quick thoughts:

First, I thought the discussion went very well last night - the dynamic in the room was good and the interaction was great - it was refreshing to see people genuinely interact without acrimony and name calling and with great civility - let's work hard to keep that tone as this thing progresses.

Secondly, the issue of whether we act altruistically toward others because we bear the image of God or whether we act altuistically toward others because of evolutinary adaptation was raised last night - keep thinking about that one as we move forward. Tom put his finger on the issue: Is there ever such a thing as a purely selfless act? Along with that, is religion something (as Richard Dawkins proposes) that we have adopted within the evolutinary mechanism because it really benefits us? What possible objections do you see to this line of thinking?

I look forward to reading your comments and seeing you all next week.

Jan. 29th Meeting

I thought that tonight's meeting was great from my perspective. I was unable to attend the actual session in person, but was able to to be there through the great work of Zach and a little thing called the internet. It was an interesting position to be in and one that turned out to be quite fascinating. As there was a great discussion going on in class, that I heard most of, there were many side discussions happening by way of instant chatting. These discussions were not however, ramblings. Rather, there were many great questions, asnwers, and interactions. The most interesting part was however, that the majority of those on line were no where near Pensacola. Scotland, Ireland, other parts of the UK and parts unknown made up most of the group (or that is at least what I gathered). Many of these individuals confessed their love for the Lord and are working on the web and in other areas to reach the lost. So, I say let's pray for them, encourage them, and thank the for the fine work they are doing. I know that I am very greatful to ZKUEKER88 and his making this online community apart of ProjectUWF. Zach has a great love for the Lord and desires to see the truthes of God stated and defended. Thanks Zach and keep up the good work.

The Reason for God

Tim Keller's book, The Reason for God, will be discussed on this blog. This book will serve as a center piece of the initial efforts to reach UWF. Project UWF will not be limited to this effort, but the idea of engaging individuals with open, civil, and respectful dialogue will be... Please feel free to comment on this section.
